  1. Thank god the Chappel talk is over. India has had enough of his nonsense.

  2. Thanks Anonymous, but in the interests of balance, let me say that I've just received a note from a reader who thought the blog was 'very interesting' and agreed with Chappell's word 'freakish' (in a completely non-disparaging way, of course ... rather, as a form of praise).
And another agreed with the Latin mentality comment from last week's blog. So I guess it takes all kinds (of blog readers), thanks be to God.
Oh, and Anonymous, please don't be shy ... let us know your name, eh?

  3. Sorry, I am weighing in here, again.

Firstly, I must come out and say that I regard Greg as a friend.

Secondly, Greg I think, is one of the smartest cricket gurus around.A left field thinker and visionary. His legacy in India is unacknowledged, much to my shame, as an Indian. And it goes, much deeper than taking on the senior coterie in the Indian team who had a mini-mafia of their own going. Laziness was their prime attribute and Greg would not stand for it and took them on- without the support of the BCCI. He paid the price for that.

Greg's "boys" are still playing though hardly anyone acknowledges that these are the boys he picked, empowered, coached and toughened. They all know who they are and Greg knows who they are. I know some. No names as it will only cost them their place in the Indian side. It has already cost a couple.

Thirdly, Greg had to contend not just with the highly diverse and savage Indian media running it's own agenda but some of India's more powerful old cricketers in the media, ganging up on him. A lot out of envy. Again, a shame, that they were willing him to fail & were highly destructive.

Fourthly, Greg is a Chappell. People in India just do not understand that. You don't ask a Chappell his opinion if you won't have the stomach for it. Most Indians would not. And, Greg is a hell lot more diplomatic than IMC. His way or the highway, if he tells you to shape up.

I reckon that the drop in the fielding standards in India that we see is proof enough of the current lax regime where the players scorned the fielding coach. The Coach of the Indian side is a good but mild fella who would remember what the senior boyz did to Greg so he certainly won't be making waves.
