Awesome post Christine! I wait for your posts week in and week out. You have succeeded in interviewing important yet unknown people who played a part in Sachin's career. I've heard so much about Vasu Paranjape but this is probably the first time I'm hearing him express his views. Kudos!

Must say that it is brilliant writing and you have captured the essence of the man. To most cricket "insiders" in India, Vasoo is the smartest bloke around. A intuitive, aggressive captain in the Mark Taylor league. And someone who can read the game a coupla overs ahead of everyone else.
I am not very objective as far as he is concerned. He was my Coach since 1974.

ReplyDeleteOne of India's most prolific and well known Test player, Ajay Jadeja' had once stated on TV channel that Vasoo has the best cricketing brain In India and that BCCI should make use of his services. Vasoo's age notwithstanding BCCI should appoint him as 'Fielding Coach'. If given a competent young man as an Assisttant coach for the hard physical work I am sure he will produce excelllent results in Indian team's weakness in 'Fielding' in general and direct throw in particular.

Vasoo will be an excellent 'Fielding Coach' for Indian team. Fielding was one department of the game in which Vasoo excelled in his playing days. He is no longer young so he will have to have a competent young cricketer as an Assistant Coach to do the hard physical work. There can be no doubt that Vasoo will be able to produce excellent results in 'Fielding' in general and 'Direct Throw' in particular. What is India's weakness 'Fielding' can become our strength under Vasoo's guidance.
