Sachin Tendulkar – youthful courage and ambition

Hi Chris, I enjoyed Harsha's observation about Sachin audibly counting the runs he anticipates from each ball. What a lovely snippet. Thanks for offering new perspectives on Sachin every week. I always look forward to Mondays now so I can read your blog! Sharon
Thanks Sharon. Yes, I think that was the most observant comment I've received. Harsha Boghle knows so much about the game - and has a sharp mind, sharp eyesight and, obviously, sharp hearing!
Hi Chris, just happened across your blog and am intrigued by your insights into Sachin's life. The idea of "genius" is fascinating, that some amongst us are born with a unique talent for a creative endeavor - be it sport, the arts, business or whatever. How is it that these people, the "freaks", find the field in which they are to excel? How was it that Sachin came to play cricket, is it a standard sport for Indian schoolboys or was it connected to his middle-class family's cultural environment? I've now bookmarked your site and will be a regular reader from now on. Thanks!
A real indication of his self-belief and determination at 16 to be disappointed to not be given the chance to face Bishop, Marshall, Patterson, Walshe and Ambrose. Warwick McDonald
